Welcome

Inclusion and Social Justice Articles (ISJA) provides easy access to the best writing on inclusion and social justice.

This site has two main parts. The first is a directory of around 130 links to articles to be found elsewhere on the internet. Each is reviewed and described briefly. The second is a set of 'on-site' articles. These are arranged by author.

PLEASE HELP ME UPDATE THIS SITE... I haven't had time to keep the directory links up to date and many links are now broken. Thank you to all those who have told me about articles which have been moved or removed from other internet sites. I'm very aware that this is an issue. Often if you find a broken link to an off-site article it is possible to re-locate that article using the title and the author's name in Google. When people let me know about such changes I can update the link - particularly if you can provide details of the articles new home.

News / Information

[October 2011] I've moved Inclusion and Social Justice Articles here from the old web address. Please bear with me if there are any functions which don't currently work properly as a result - and please let me know too!. Also added three entries to the Gender directory page - Small Talk, Mirror Mirror, and Men-ups! (at the top of the page)

[March 2011] Added: a link to Person-centred.co.uk (writing by Carl Rogers) on the Person-centred planning directory page.

[October 2010] Added: The two full books by Robert Weetman (Empowering Practice and Real Inclusion), on the Service Quality directory page.

[August 2010] Added: The 'Key Ideas kit' (Key Ideas on Independent Advocacy) from Advocacy 2000, on the Independent Advocacy directory page.

[October 2009] Added: A new article by Robert Weetman on emergence from the journal 'Emergence Complexity & Organisation' on the change page of the directory. Also added: An article describing Motivational Interviewing by Stephen Rollnick and William R. Miller on the 'general articles' page of the directory. Please continue to note comments about broken links (below).

[May 2009] It's been a while since any updates have been added to the site, but most content should remain vaild. Thank you to all those who have told me about articles which have been moved or removed from other internet sites. Often if you find a broken link to an off-site article it is possible to re-locate that article using the title and the author's name in Google.

[November 2008] Added: A new article by Kimberly McClain DaCosta on the BBC website, listed at the bottom of the ethnic origin page of the directory.

[October 2008] Fixed: Links fixed to articles about the work of Ronald Heifetz and Marty Linsky (on the 'change' page of the directory).

[May 2008] Added: A set of articles by Michael Smull entitled 'Listen, Learn, Act' has been added to the person-centred planning directory page (the broken link to Michael Smull's article 'Positive Rituals and Quality of Life' on that page has also been fixed); an article by Cordelia Fine 'All in the mind' is now listed on the 'General' directory page.

[January 2008] Added: Links to some of the best entries from the blog 'Pipecleaner Dreams' on the inclusive education directory page.

[December 2007] Added: The Advocacy 2000 document 'Principles and Standards in Independent Advocacy organisations and groups' has been archived on this site because of the disappearance of the old Advocacy 2000 website. It is available on the Independent Advocacy page of the directory. Several articles by Mitchel Peters - on Citizen Advocacy - have also been added here.

[December 2007] Added: 'Pass the Bucket' and 'Miss Ability lays down on the job' are interesting blog entries, added to the 'Other' directory page.

[November 2007] Added: An article by Fred Milson on youth work - on the service quality directory page. A short blog article about Children in Need and the label 'young carer' on the 'other' page of the directory.

[September/October 2007] Added: An article by Dave Hingsburger to the 'disability' page of the directory, and "Who me? I'm just a housewife" by Jen Clayton to the 'gender' page. Also a link to an interesting debate on latimes.com between Paul Campos and Kelly Brownell - at the bottom of the gender directory page.

[September 2007] An exciting new search feature has been provided on the search page. The simple search box searches this site as before, but you can also refine the results. The second search box searches the content of all pages linked from this site (importantly including the content of all off-site articles).

[June/July 2007] Judith Snow has submitted seven excellent articles for inclusion on the site (they can be found on the 'on-site' articles page). There's a newly listed article on emergence by Margaret Wheatley and Deborah Frieze at the bottom of the 'change' directory page. I've added links to 'Where the size zero debate goes awry' by Laurie Penny and 'Redefine the Problem' and 'The Compliment that Hurts' by Kelly Bliss to the 'gender' directory page. A whole set of articles around 'intersex' are now listed on the 'other articles' page of the directory.

[June 2007] Added to directory: Video of the work of Beyond Welfare - at the bottom of the 'other' page of the directory. Two articles by Micheline Mason at the bottom of the 'disability' page of the directory.'A Fat Rant' (video) by Joy Nash at the top of the 'Gender' page of the directory.

Accessibility

The site is designed to be as accessible as possible - but it is maintained in my spare time and I have only limited knowledge of web design so faults are inevitable. Constructive advice and assistance will be gratefully received. Note the comment about text size below. Users of screen readers may like to know that most links in the directory of off-site articles open a new window (because they go to a page on another web site). Off-site articles will obviously vary hugely in their accessibility.

Text size

If you find the text hard to read because of its size remember that you should easily be able to increase this. Look for appropriate menu options on your web browser, or try holding down (on your keyboard) the ctrl/apple key and pressing + (or - for smaller).

An 'RSS news feed' is available for the 'News' section of this page.
